Middle East reaches new horizon in IT with Shaheen II

With the improved facilities and increasing scope of information technology among the Middle East countries, the technology development has astonished the world with Saudi Arabia’s Shaheen II (Cray XC40) supercomputer. This high performance machine has entered, for the first time, top ten lists of the most powerful computers on the planet.


According to Top 500 organisation that monitors high-performance machines, Shaheen II (Cray XC40) supercomputer has obtained seventh place beating Stampede, Vulcan of US and JUQUEEN of Germany.

The Shaheen II has a peak number-crunching capacity of 5.536 petaflops. With this it is clearly evident that these countries are striving hard to be the next Silicon Valley in near future.

China’s Tianhe-2 remains the fastest supercomputer in the world for the Fifth consecutive time.

List of Top 10 supercomputers in order: Tianhe-2, Titan, Sequoia, K Computer, Mira, Piz Daint, Shaheen II, Stampede, JUQUEEN, Vulcan.

No WhatsApp, iMessage and Snapchat in UK in couple of weeks

All my UK friends, let’s go back to our old social networking friends Facebook, Google and Yahoo, UK government is likely to put an end to all the social networking platforms having data encryption. This step is taken to prevent terrorist attacks and other national security issues.

The government says the data encryption method in these social media's has provided the terrorist a new to pass messages safely to across nation without being detected by the security agencies.
If the new law nicknamed the ‘snoopers charter’, is passed then all the three widely popular social media apps WhatsApp, iMessage and Snapchat would be illegal in UK.
This step is taken, keeping in view, the recent terrorist attacks in Tunisia and France.
This act would be a terrible blow for the people who like to chat with people across the globe as well as the people who like private chats.

New IBM chip doubles power performance in smartphones

It is likely that, in near future, the smartphones are going to get better and faster with increased performances which could bypass performance levels of present high end laptops. IBM introduces industry's first seven-nanometer chip that could hold more than 20 billion tiny switches or transistors for improved computing power.


According to the industry experts, the chip is said to meet the future computing demands ranging from smartphones to spacecrafts as its shows around 50% power-performance improvement.
This new 7 nanometer chip is likely to give tight competition for the mobile processor leaders like Snapdragon, Intel, Nvidia.
The chip was developed as part of a $3 billion research effort with Samsung and GlobalFoundries at the State University of New York at Albany.
According to Michael Liehr, the university's vice-president of innovation and research, enabling the first 7nm node transistors is a significant milestone for the entire semiconductor industry as we continue to push beyond the limitations of our current capabilities.
