Ever since the release of the first computer generated
animation feature film “Toy Story “ in 1995 created by Pixar, the technology
and artworks has been involving for the last two decades creating new dimensions
in movie making and introducing a whole new level of virtual reality to the
entire world.
The first animated film, which used hand drawings, “Humorous
Phases of Funny Faces” created by cartoonist J. Stuart Blacktonin 1906. Since
then, the technique used by the animators to create motion pictures has evolved
continuously. And also with the introduction of computers, with higher
computing power specialized in image processing, has supported the animators
and special effects designers tremendously to create high quality animation
works and 3D images.
Inventions and improvements in computer science is evolving
at a very fast rate to meet with the
increasing demand for the increased processing powers in computers since the
rendering of Computer generated animations requires high end processing and
huge data storage.
According to Dwarf Labs, animation and visual effects studio,
the company's latest short film, Lune et le Loup, consists of 4 minutes of
animation having 7,500 frames and each frame is 150-200 MB.
The animation feature film "How to Train Your Dragon
2", which was released in 2014, created by DreamWorks grossed over $618
million worldwide required around 10,000 simultaneous computing cores, 75
million computing hours, to render all the images and required 250 TB of active
disk space to store the film.
The evolution of 4K and 8K projection technologies has
triggered new developments in the technologies like motion capture cameras and
sensors, high motion cameras (IMAX camera). Also the demand for virtual reality
technology has increased.
According to reports, James Cameron, the most acclaimed film
director, would be using underwater motion capture technology and top notch
graphics which mesmerize the audience with new level of virtual reality.
On
other hand Virtual reality firm, IM360 is teaming up with Comic-Con for creating
a virtual reality content for “The Walking Dead’s Walker Staker” fan event.
IM360 will have its 360-degree VR cameras on hand which will have live
streaming to VR headsets.
The
digital artwork industry is continuously emerging with the improvements and
developments in the computing technologies. Following are some of the best
animated feature films during 1995 to 2015 (from the world renowned animation
studios like Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks):

and Max (2009), Ratatouille (2007),
